Discovered by way of Radio K’s monthly curation, “K Local” back in December 2021, I’ve got Creeping Charlie’s debut full-length release “How to Kill Creeping Charlie” (Flavor World Records) on heavy rotation this week.
The band (born during the Time of Covid) is Minneapolis-based Julia Eubanks (singer/songwriter/guitarist) along with sister Esme, Jack Malone and Harry Miles. The sound? To my ears, it’s indie guitar punk pop. Is that a thing? Hope so. I love it.
With each listen, my favorite song changes. Most of the tracks feature lyrics of self-reflection and some brutal honesty that I can always relate to.
First it was “Quiet” and then “Intrusive Thoughts” that both reminded me of a sort of Belly/Juliana Hatfield sound. There is nothing I don’t like about “GTFO”. The slower, dreamier, breathier tune “When it Rains in LA” is a nice transition before “Back Around” (which is kind of back to being my favorite again) and then I think wait, but the last song, “The Year I Lost Myself and Found The E-Bow, Despite the Fact This Song Has No E-Bow” is so…?
You can give “How to Kill Creeping Charlie” a listen on Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, etc.
